Our Mitchell Street Window Studio

Our informative and entertaining 24-7 Red Sky Stage streaming Internet radio station is up and running.  We will pack it full of local news, events and, of course, great coverage of the visual and performing arts in Petoskey, Northern Michigan and beyond.

Our Monday through Friday morning show and some of our other programming will be live.  We built our Internet radio station in our big window on East Mitchell Street so we can be truly in the mix in Downtown Petoskey.  We know that it is cold outside so we welcome you to come inside during our live programing and join our studio audience and participate in the action.

You are invited to listen to Red Sky Stage Internet Radio in Petoskey or anywhere in the world on any Internet connected device with a web browser.  See instructions below.

Back Porch January 11, 2014

From my Friends Robin and Pam Luce and their ongoing Music Program:
Happy New Year! Back Porch music continues in the new year on Sat., Jan. 11 with scheduled performer Mel Sweet. Mel Sweet is one of the founding members of the ‘SweetWater Blues Band’ and is currently playing solo sets promoting the tradition of ‘American Roots Music with a Bluesy Attitude’. ‘SweetWater’ has played a number of area venues including ‘Little Bohemia, the Traverse City Film Festival, Rascal Jakk’s, and Red Mesa’. An evening with ‘SweetWater Blues’ is a tour of classic and contemporary blues music presented in the ‘SweetWater’ style. The sets are interspersed with original music as well as other classics in the ‘Rhythm & Blues’ tradition and maybe a story or two along the way. ‘SweetWater Blues’ hopes you will hear something you like and can take with you. The scheduled performer will play from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., then musicians will gather for a circle jam. Suggested donations at the door are $5 – $10- donations are for the scheduled performer(s). Soup, cookies, coffee and tea are available at no additional charge. Doors open by 6:30 p.m. This is a community event for all ages, held at the Charlevoix Senior Center building- at the corner of Carpenter and Sheridan streets- accessible building and parking. Back Porch Event Dec. 14 Charlevoix Senior Center 7pm

The December Back Porch Music Event will be held on Saturday, December 14th, featuring Cal Manis! Cal is a “musician’s musician”- well-respected by other musicians because of his amazing talent on lead guitar. Cal learned his musical art literally at the feet of old-style blues musicians. Cal says “if you can play the blues on the guitar, you can play anything.” He enjoys sharing that philosophy with the audience by playing a variety of favorite tunes from a variety of genres from standards to rock and roll, country to Southern and Chicago-style blues. The featured performer will share music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Following the scheduled performer, we will have a “circle jam session”. Cal has generously offered that all donations at the door for this special evening of music will go toward the Back Porch food costs.

As always, soups, coffee, cookies will be available at no additional charge. The Back Porch music events are held at the Charlevoix Senior Center Building. Remember, this is a Community Event~ for All Ages! Directions to the Charlevoix Senior Center: From US-31 (Bridge St.), turn west on Carpenter St. (between the Pizza Hut and Flap Jack Shack) to corner of Carpenter and Sheridan Streets.
The facility is fully accessible. Contact: 231-622-2944. Hope to see you there!

Hey…this one’s “For You”

November 9th, 2013 by waterearth

Nov. 11…

Prologue: Breakfast of Champions
Kurt Vonnegut
“…When I was a boy…all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. The have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So, [until very recently… not eons ago as is often quoted from other sources] we still had among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind.
Armistice Day has become Veterans’ Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans’ Day is not.
So, I will throw Veterans’ Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don’t want to throw away any sacred things.
What else is sacred? Oh, Romeo and Juliet, for instance. All music is….”
